New smoke and vape-free zones come into effect in Queensland

Sep 01,2023 | VAPES.BAR

New vape and smoke-free zones come into effect in Queensland today.
The extended no-smoking zones now include areas near outdoor markets, food and drinking venues, school car parks and any under 18 recreational events.
"While our state has some of the strongest tobacco laws in the world, smoking is still a significant contributor to death and disease," Queensland Health said in a Facebook post.

"Restricting smoking across more public places means fewer people will be exposed to second-hand smoke."
"This is another step towards a smoke-free future for all Queenslanders."
It is illegal to smoke non-prescription vapes in Queensland.

The smoke-free zones come after the federal government cracked down on vaping in May, proposing a total importation ban on non-prescription vapes.
Smoke-free restrictions will be extended to pubs and clubs from 1 July 2024.
